Breast cancer surgery includes the complete removal of malignant tissue and of lymph nodes from the adjacent axilla. At Breast & Health we always aim at optimizing the surgical procedure in order to avoid scar formation and to minimize tissue defects. Modern operative techniques allow to preserve the diseased breast in almost all cases. The removal of a »sentinel« lymph node allows us to preserve the lymph drainage of the arm and to avoid the swelling of the affected upper extremity (»lymphedema«). And modern oncoplastic techniques usually ensure an aesthetic outcome even in large an anatomically unfavourable tumors.
